Assistant Director of Off-Campus Study Presents Research on Student Retention
Assistant Director of off-campus study Kim Longfellow presented findings from her ongoing research on student retention within off-campus study programs. At the 2023 NAFSA Region X and XI Conference in Montreal, Longfellow was the chair and presenter at a session titled "Ghosted: Data-Driven Analysis of Students Breaking Up with Study Abroad."
Her research and session explored how "Study abroad participation is not only about getting students to apply, but also getting them to participate. Using data from public/private institutions, this session seeks to identify patterns of student withdrawal from study abroad. Applicant “melt” and ways to address it will be explored. Participants in this session will be challenged to re-envision their application processes to better understand barriers to participation and how to make data-driven decisions on retention efforts."
