Associate Professor of Biology Susan Willson's research about ways to make outdoor cats more visible to birds was recently featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered."
The segment, “Killer Kitties? Scientists Track What Outdoor Cats Are Doing All Day,” gave Willson, a tropical avian ecologist and conservation biologist, the opportunity to talk about how useful colorful collars can be when trying to prevent cats from killing birds.
Willson's research into the use of collars designed and manufactured by Birdsafe showed that 87 percent of birds were protected when cats wore the collars. Her research was published by Global Ecology and Conservation.
