Dr. Rowland's Book Earns Rave Reviews as "Marvel" for Rhetorical Theory
Dr. Rowland's book declared a "marvel for rhetorical theory..."
Dr. Rowland's book Zoetropes: The Politics of Humanhood (Ohio University Press, 2020) received glowing praise from Michael J. Benjamin in a book review published in the academic journal Rhetoric Review. Throughout his review, Benjamin praises the book. He begins by arguing that Dr. Rowland's book, "does a masterful job of weaving together rhetorics, citizenship, race, gender, and sexuality" (55). He describes Dr. Rowland's writing as densely theoretical, but goes on to argue that with each chapter and case study, Dr. Rowland increases her book's "accessibility to those outside of and new to the field of rhetoric" by grounding the theory in "digestible snippets of materiality" (54). He concludes the review, "Zoetropes and the Politics of Humanhood is a marvel for rhetorical theory, necropolitics, and those invested in the hierarchical nature of life" (55).
