Empowering Student Success
Endowed funds strengthen the impact of the Fox Center for Academic Opportunity.
Through the generosity of the St. Lawrence community, The William L. Fox ’75 Center for Academic Opportunity has become the physical manifestation and embodiment of the University’s commitment to providing a holistic and personalized student experience. Over $5 million in gifts and commitments to the center have been made, which include a $1 million grant made by The Eisner Foundation, founded by Jane Breckenridge Eisner ’64 and her husband, Michael D. Eisner, and a $1 million commitment from University Trustee Joan Darrow Corey ’74 and her husband Richard Corey.
Support for the Fox Center Enables us to:
ADVISE & ADVANCE
The William L. Fox ’75 Center for Academic Opportunity is an inviting, technologically advanced space located in Fox Hall between the Sullivan Student Center and the Johnson Hall of Science.
It’s a place where all students of different backgrounds, abilities, and academic interests can access the individualized resources they need to succeed. Various academic advising and support offices are located alongside one another, as well as testing and study rooms and several collaborative spaces, which has created a support “hub” in a central location that makes it easier for students to stop in and take advantage of its countless resources.
SUPPORT & RETAIN
Investment in the STARFISH student success retention software has paid dividends, Fox Center staff report, because it enables them to efficiently collaborate with faculty to identify students who may be at a higher risk for leaving school. With streamlined communication, they are better equipped to respond with support strategies and interventions. The Student Accessibility Services office provides exam proctoring services and injury-related classroom accommodations for student-athletes and others. The Accessibility team assists 25% of the campus population with these and other academic accommodations, like the administration of untimed exams, to give students the best possible opportunities to be successful.
CONNECT & EMPOWER
The Fox Center functions as a one-stop shop for students to obtain the resources they need to be successful at St. Lawrence. The ability to easily access support staff and services is especially critical for first-generation students as well as students from economically disadvantaged and/or other underrepresented groups who are enrolled in HEOP (Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program), CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) scholars, and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Fox Hall has become a “comfort zone” for learning and connection, empowering students to reach their full potential.
The William L. Fox ’75 Center for Academic Opportunity honors President Emeritus William L. Fox ’75 and his commitment to every student’s success. To learn more about how you can support the Fox Center, please contact us at universityadvancement@stlawu.edu or 888-758-4438.
