Environmental Psychology and Design Class Worked with Lisbon Central School for Conceptual Designs of the School’s Courtyard
Throughout the fall semester Environmental Studies' faculty, Kearney Coupland's ENVS-3083, Environmental Psychology and Design, class worked with Lisbon Central School to come up with conceptual designs for the school’s courtyard. Students did a site analysis of the courtyard, conducted a survey and interviews with administration and teachers, and facilitated a design workshop for 6th-grade students in order to inform their designs. Using what they learned from their research with the school and based on environmental psychology concepts and theories, groups of students came up with some interesting and creative designs for the spaces that will be used for the school’s development of a proposal for the space in the future. In addition to designing an awesome new multi-functional space, the students had a great time working with Lisbon Central School and getting to engage with the surrounding communities.
