August 2022: Sophomore Tuesday
On August 23rd we had a conversation about social media best practices, digital hygiene, and other strategies for success. This workshop was designed to help people avoid common social media pitfalls and to provide resources to help make social media work for them.
August 2022: Class of 2025 Picnic
See old friends and meet new classmates and members of the Sophomore Success Initiative team while enjoying a menu of jerk chicken, red beans and rice, along with other vegan and vegetarian options. This event will be held in the Herring-Cole Grove from 5-7:30 PM on Monday, August 29th.
September 2022: Career Exploration for Sophomores
In late September we will hold a workshop in Dean Eaton Hall led by Dr. Tom Fraatz in the Center for Career Excellence. This workshop, exclusively for sophomores, will provide interactive and participatory resources that will help you navigate your SLU and career journeys.
October 2022: Off-Campus Study Open House
The Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS) will offer an informational open house event in the Student Center on October 6th on various off-campus study options available to St. Lawrence students. Sophomores can gather useful information as they approach the off-campus study application process which culminates in early 2023.
November 2022: Selection of Spring Courses and Sophomore Seminars
Students will pick spring courses during the second week of November, starting on Monday, November 7th. Your advisors, mentors, and the Sophomore Success Initiative team look forward to helping you select a great set of classes. As you're exploring, don't forget about the spring slate of sophomore seminars, designed for and open to 2nd-year students only, which will be announced in October.
November 2022: First Generation Initiative Celebration Week
This will be a week-long celebration taking place in early November. The First Generation Initiative team has planned events to help first-gen college students connect with one another and with faculty and staff who are first-gen graduates. This is the time to recognize and celebrate the achievements of first-gen college students! More information about this event will come out in October and you are welcome to contact Dr. Tina Tao at ktao@stlawu.edu to learn more.
December 2022: Fellowships and Internships
Become more informed about summer internships and fellowships: Do you have questions about SLU Summer Research Fellowships; Internships Fellowships; SLU Public Interest Corps (PIC); Tanner Fellowships; and Davis Projects for Peace? Join the professional staff from the Center for Career Excellence and representatives from fellowship and internship programs to explain the programs and help you determine which opportunity is right for you. This workshop is an ideal way to jump start planning for your summer. Time and format to be announced later in the fall.
January 2023: Sophomore Boot Camp
Hear from alumni and parents across a variety of industry fields. Learn about about internship options and resources in those fields, career management skills, networking and professional communication, and what employers are looking for from candidates. Please contact the Center for Career Excellence for more information. A registration link will be provided later in the fall. This event is scheduled for January 14th-16th, 2023.
January 2023: Sophomore Tuesday
After Boot Camp join the Sophomore Success Initiative team for the spring semester edition of Sophomore Tuesday, which will take place during the day on January 17, 2023. You will receive one-on-one help with your off-campus study application and assistance in refining your academic goals, interests, and habits. Look for registration information in December.

Did you know? With major selection coming up in February, sophomores can get academic advising help anytime! Your faculty advisors are ready to assist plus the Academic Advising Office can arrange individual meeting times with their team at academicadvising@stlawu.edu. They also hold the following weekly open office hours:
