Fiske Praises St. Lawrence’s Liberal Arts Experience
Fiske’s annual list of the “best and most interesting” colleges and universities in the country once again includes St. Lawrence University.
With quotes from multiple students included, Fiske Guide to Colleges 2022—which became available on Wednesday, July 6—emphasizes St. Lawrence’s classical liberal arts education, small class sizes and dedicated faculty. “Teachers value the input of each student,” says one student.
Fiske also celebrates St. Lawrence’s location and new and renovated campus facilities which have “helped to make the campus almost as breathtaking as the natural beauty that surrounds it,” writes Fiske. “And intimate classes mean it’s as easy to form friendships with faculty members as it is with fellow students.”
Fiske underscores that nearly three-quarters of St. Lawrence students take part in at least one internship, while 61 percent study abroad or at one of several domestic programs such as the Liberal Arts in New York City, The Washington Center program in Washington, D.C., and the Adirondack Semester.

Fiske included one student’s praise of the University for “always looking for ways to improve. From changing the meal plan to work better for students to creating Sophomore Seminar programs, there are always new things being added to the St. Lawrence student experience.”
St. Lawrence’s First-Year Program, which emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and prepares students for four years of a highly interdisciplinary educational experience, was also highlighted. “This program creates an instant living and learning community the moment you step on campus, and students within FYPs become like family,” said one student. In addition, optional Sophomore Seminars involve intensive advising, teas and coffees with professors, and course-related field trips.
Earlier this year, The Princeton Review ranked St. Lawrence’s alumni network No. 3 in the nation for the third time in four years. St. Lawrence was also included on the Best Schools for Internships and Best Schools for Making an Impact lists.
