This week, students in Dr. Mindy Pitre’s Forensic Anthropology course took part in an immersive experience that involved forensic archaeological excavation. Working collaboratively, students set up 1 meter by 1 meter excavation units and used trowels and brushes etc. to excavate their units. While no real human remains were excavated, through this mock experience, students learned what it’s like to be a forensic anthropologist working at a scene in which human skeletal remains are suspected to be buried.
