Gallery Director Presents Research at International Conference
In August, Director of the Richard F. Brush Gallery Catherine Tedford presented an illustrated online paper titled "Street Stickers as Subversive Visual Discourse" at the 2022 International Visual Literacy Association conference.
The theme of the conference was "Connecting and Sharing - Envisioning the Futures of Visual Literacy," hosted at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
Tedford's paper is based on a chapter of the same title for an upcoming publication, "Unframing the Visual: Visual Literacy Pedagogy for Academic Libraries and Information Spaces" by the Association of College and Research Libraries.
Her research focuses on street stickers as a form of sociopolitical commentary and critique. Tedford curated, "Paper Bullets: 100 Years of Political Stickers from around the World" which was presented at Neurotitan Gallery in Berlin, Germany in 2019. She has written chapters on Industrial Workers of the World "stickerettes" or "silent agitators" for Stickers: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art, Vol. 2 (Rizzoli, 2019) and for Signal 06: A Journal of International Political Graphics & Culture (Justseeds, 2018).
