New Faculty for 2020-21
Dr. Fritz Schenker has been with us a few years, but begins a new position as Assistant Professor of Music this fall. Fritz's teaching and research centers on popular music, race, and empire.
Fritz received his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2016) and a B.A. in American Studies at Northwestern University (2007). His work has been supported by a Mellon Fellowship for Dissertation Research in Original Sources (for archival research in Manila, Hong Kong, and Singapore), a University of Wisconsin Chancellor’s Fellowship, and a Mellon-Wisconsin Summer Fellowship. Fritz was previously a postdoctoral teaching fellow in music at Washington University in St. Louis.
This year he will be teaching MUS 210, Musics of the World, and MUS 3021, Popular Music Industries (sections offered in both fall and spring).
In the fall he is also teaching MUS 4004, Global Jazz, and in the spring he will be teaching a new course, Music and Race.
We're delighted to have him and his family here!
