St. Lawrence University has named Paul Redfern as its next vice president for University Communications, President William L. Fox announced on Dec. 20. He will begin his duties on Jan. 30, 2018.

Redfern is currently the executive director of communications and marketing at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, his alma mater. He assumed the role in 2011, after more than a decade of experience at Gettysburg in various positions, including athletics, admissions, and web communications.
“Our search committee and I appreciated the many endorsements we heard about Paul’s collaboration and management skills, his integrity, his commitment to research-informed strategies, and his connections to the Gettysburg area community,” Fox stated in his memo to the campus on Wednesday. “His experience in admissions marketing and with campaign communications will serve our University well in the coming years. In addition, Paul is very active professionally in his discipline of marketing communications, in regional and national organizations. We also admire Paul’s efforts to support public education in Gettysburg, helping to raise funds and serving as a member of the local Board of Education.”
Redfern replaces Melissa Farmer Richards, who left the University in July 2017. Since then, Ryan Deuel has served as acting executive officer with assistance from Vice President for University Advancement Tom Pynchon.
Redfern will be joined by his family later in the year.
