St. Lawrence University President William L. Fox ’75 has been appointed to The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) Board of Trustees.
The statewide association for more than 100 private higher education institutions, cIcu’s Board of Trustees is composed of more than 20 presidents from private colleges and universities within the Independent Sector in New York State. The mission of cIcu is to develop a consensus among a diverse membership and to advance higher education policy.
“President Fox is the right person to join the cIcu board and to enhance our efforts,” said Laura L. Anglin, president of cIcu. “His commitment to higher education is immeasurable.”
On July 1, 2009, President Fox became the 18th president and a senior lecturer in history at St. Lawrence University, his undergraduate alma mater, after serving as president and senior lecturer in philosophy, religion and history at Culver-Stockton College from 2003 to 2009. A native of Washington, D.C., he received a master of divinity degree from Harvard University in 1978 and a Ph.D. in American religious history from George Washington University in 1989.
“I am very pleased to be named a member of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities’ board of trustees,” President Fox said. “Given that it represents over 100 institutions, it is one of the nation’s premier state associations.”
President Fox has had a national voice through published essays in Inside Higher Education, Best Practices in Higher Education and The Huffington Post, and broadcast media such as WAMC and WPBS. In recognition of his leadership in higher education, The Council of Independent Colleges, Washington DC, elected him to its Board of Trustees in January 2011. He also serves as an occasional visitation chair for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
