Assistant Professor of Psychology Elyssa Twedt has been awarded a fellowship for the 2020-2021 academic year at the University of Virginia’s Center for Design and Health to study individual differences in the restorative effects of natural environments.
The Center’s fellows program is for one calendar year (commencing in the fall semester of each year) and is designed to foster interdisciplinary work on a range of scholarly research related to design and health.
Twedt’s research focuses on investigating how people perceive, remember, and navigate through space, known broadly as spatial cognition, as well as studying how the physical environment, such as natural and built spaces, affect well-being. Her current teaching focus is Sensation and Perception with lab, Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods with Lab, and a Cognitive Science seminar.
Twedt received her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Most recently, she was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Richmond.
