St. Lawrence University’s Board of Trustees has elected Lee Bailey, Class of 1974, and Joanie Byrne Hall, a Class of 2017 parent, as new term members as well as Christian Ehrhardt, Class of 2007, and Morgan (Pendergast) Baker, Class of 2008, as McCurdy-Sprague trustees.
The two term trustees will be for a period of six years while the two McCurdy-Sprague Trustees will be for a period of four years. Their terms began on June 1.
Lee Bailey ’74
Lee Bailey is a managing director at US Renewables Group (“USRG”), a Los Angeles-based private equity fund that invests in renewable energy and clean fuel companies. He is actively involved in the management of the firm; has led investments in companies in the geothermal, concentrated solar and wind areas; is a member of the Board of Directors for several USRG portfolio companies; and has led USRG’s efforts to invest in emerging markets.
Bailey graduated from St. Lawrence with an honors degree in government. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, participated in Laurentian Singers and several community services organizations, and was elected to the Thelomathesian Society. As an alumnus, he has chaired his Reunion Development Committee, been a panelist for the Laurentians in Residence program, and served on the Leadership Gifts Committee.
He and his wife, Dr. Linda Rosenstock, dean emerita of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, are members of the Laurentian Leadership Society. They have two sons currently attending college, and they reside in Pacific Palisades, California, and Upper Saranac Lake, New York.
Joanie Byrne Hall P’17
Joanie Byrne Hall, parent of Stepper ’17, is a graduate of Michigan State University, Class of 1984. She and her husband, Bob, are members of the St. Lawrence Parents Committee and have served on the Parents Executive Committee at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Hall has headed up committees and events for Agnes Irwin School, Haverford School, Shipley School, Benchmark School, The Gunnery, and Holderness. She currently serves on the boards of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, the Yellowstone Club Community Foundation and the Barbara Bradley Baekgaard Family Foundation. She served on the Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia for eight years and chaired several events during her terms. Joanie has worked in a variety of businesses from the ski industry to finance to retail and decorative arts.
The Halls have three children, Frannie, Stepper, and Henry. While raising their children, the Halls lived in Haverford, Pennsylvania. They now divide their time between New York City and Big Sky, Montana.
McCurdy-Sprague trustees are named in honor of Delos McCurdy, one of the first two graduates in the first graduating class in 1865, and Sarah Elmira Sprague, one of the first two women to graduate in 1866. McCurdy-Sprague trustees must have graduated from St. Lawrence between two and 10 years before their election.
Morgan (Pendergast) Baker ’08
Morgan (Pendergast) Baker is an assistant director of individual giving at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. As a member of the Office for External Relations, Baker works directly with the Harvard AIDS Initiative, Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, the Chan School’s Executive Committee and Leadership Council. She specializes in major gift fundraising and volunteer management.
Baker graduated from St. Lawrence with her bachelor’s degree in French and government. She was a member of the sorority Delta Delta Delta and studied abroad in France. As an alumna she was a member of her fifth-reunion development committee.
Since graduating from St. Lawrence University, Morgan has resided in Boston with her husband, Christopher M. Baker Jr., Class of 2008.
Christian Ehrhardt ’07
Christian Ehrhardt is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service. He has served at embassies in the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Africa, where he has been responsible for leading and managing embassy security operations. He is the recipient of numerous Department of State Meritorious Honor Awards.
Ehrhardt actively supports several causes in the New York City area, including the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the Portledge School (his alma mater), where he previously served on the Alumni Council.
He graduated from St. Lawrence University with his bachelor’s degree in government and a minor in French. While at St. Lawrence, he studied abroad in France, was a member of the First Responders, vice president of SLU Republicans, and served as the student advocate for the Judiciary Board. Ehrhardt also served as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) with the Canton Fire Department. As an alumnus, he has been a panelist for the Laurentians in Residence program and served in other volunteer roles, including being a Laurentians Investing in Networking and Careers (LINC) mentor.
