St. Lawrence’s NYC Program Kicks Off Spring 2025 Semester
St. Lawrence's New York City Program has launched its Spring 2025 semester, offering students a unique blend of professional experience and academic engagement in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
The Spring 2025 semester of St. Lawrence's New York City Program is officially underway, bringing together a distinguished cohort of 12 highly motivated students. Throughout the semester, these students will complete full-time internships across the city from Monday through Thursday while also enrolling in two academic courses. The program runs through the last week of April.
As part of the director’s course, led by Dr. Mert Kartal, students have already engaged with experts, diplomats, and policymakers, gaining firsthand insights into international affairs. A highlight of the semester so far was a visit to the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations. This visit was particularly relevant as the students will represent Sweden at the National Model United Nations in April, providing them with a deeper understanding of Sweden’s role and priorities in global governance.
The cohort also visited the European Union Delegation to the United Nations, where two St. Lawrence political science majors, Alissa Lapentti Grünstein and Freya Johanson, are completing internships this spring. During the visit, students had the opportunity to meet with Katarina Clifford, Head of Human Rights & Social Affairs, and Joachime Nason, Head of Humanitarian Affairs. The briefings offered valuable insights into the EU’s stance on key global issues and effective negotiation strategies—knowledge that will serve our students well in their future careers as Laurentians.
With an exciting lineup of experiences ahead, the program continues to provide students with unparalleled opportunities to immerse themselves in the professional and diplomatic landscape of New York City.
