Statistics Professor part of Sports Analytics and AI talk
ChapGPT, AI, and other large language models (LLMs) have recently received a lot of attention. A St. Lawrence University professor is using these tools to improve accessibility to sports analytics. Michael Schuckers, Charles A Dana Professor of Statistics and Data Science, recently gave a talk with Cris Ippolite of FantasyOMatic.com on using LLMs to help Fantasy Football users answer questions about decisions for their fantasy sports teams. Professor Schuckers is a leader in sports analytics and sports data science having published dozens of papers on analyzing data in sports, especially ice hockey. In 2013, he was been named Significant Contributor by the Section on Statistics in Sports of the American Statistical Association and he has consulted for teams in professional baseball and hockey. He is active in research on statistical methods for bioauthentication devices such as facial recognition and fingerprint readers including methods for assessing fairness of these devices. A Fulbright Scholar at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 2013, his research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Center for Identification Technology Research.
