The artists’ gallery talk with Rachael Marne Jones and Ryan Keith Parker originally scheduled for Monday, September 20, was reconceptualized. Instead of an in-person presentation, the artists have spoken about their work and about the exhibition in two video documentaries produced by Tzintzun Aguilar Izzo (SLU '15) and Blake Lavia, who together form Talking Wings.
Weaving together the archaeologic fragility of ceramic sculpture with the silent freeze of landscape photography, Rachael Marne Jones and Ryan Keith Parker examine humankind’s ineffectual mark on the environment. Using the remains of intention to construct a path through the future, Jones and Parker explore quiet moments left in the wake of western society’s simultaneously ambitious and destructive drive to evolve. Through the careful observation of objects and phenomena, Jones and Parker note the subtle nuances of how inequitable resource extraction and exploitation have influenced the ebb and flow of life on earth.
Trace Remains is on display at the gallery until Thursday, October 7.
