At its meeting in June, the St. Lawrence University Board of Trustees elected Nicoline Carlson Sawabini, Class of 1979 and parent of Kathryn ’15, as a new member of its board.
Sawabini recently retired as a managing director for risk management at GE Capital Commercial Real Estate. Her primary responsibilities included global oversight of the business’s environment health and safety, engineering, insurance and policy resources. She also held the additional role of enterprise and operational risk leader for real estate.
Sawabini joined General Electric’s Financial Management Program after graduating from St. Lawrence and held numerous assignments at GE Investment Corporation, GE Corporate Headquarters and at GE Capital. After completing the program, she held various finance positions within GE Capital until 1986, when she joined GE Capital’s Real Estate business. There, she held roles in risk management, spanning from new business to asset management to workouts. During her 36 years with GE, Sawabini led global teams that have performed due diligence and closings on billions of dollars of complex real estate transactions.
Sawabini graduated from St. Lawrence cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics. As a student, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sigma and studied abroad in Denmark. As an alumna, she has been a member of St. Lawrence’s Parents Committee, served as a Laurentian-in-Residence panelist and mentored several students in the Laurentians Investing in Networking and Careers (LINC) program. Sawabini is married to Stuart Sawabini, and they have two daughters, Kathryn ’15 and Abigail.
