Major Requirements
I. A dynamic business leader brings multiple perspectives to bear on business decision making. To encourage greater depth of knowledge, business in the liberal arts majors are required complete a second major at St. Lawrence University.
II. All business in the liberal arts majors must complete the following seven courses:
The core courses provide the foundational skills and knowledge common to all business environments. These include: knowledge of the workings of markets and the internal organization of the firm, knowledge of the general state of an economy, the ability to make decisions under uncertainty, and the ability to evaluate the quality and relevance of evidence. All of these help to create intellectually sophisticated business leaders.

- ECON 252: Intermediate Macroeconomics
- ACC 203: Financial Accounting
- ACC 204: Managerial Accounting
- MATH 113: Statistics
- PHIL 202: Reasoning
III. business in the liberal arts majors must complete at least one Experiential Learning opportunity
The experiential learning component of the business in the liberal arts major is intended to provide students with an opportunity to understand the critical questions confronting business leaders of the day. Business in the liberal arts majors will complete at least one of the following:
- Internship
- Community Based Learning
- Off-campus Study
Our expectations of the minimum work-load associated with either an internship or CBL opportunity will be consistent with the standards as defined in the CBL requirements listed in the CBL Student Handbook. These may currently be found here.
IV. Business in the Liberal Arts majors must complete one course in three of the following four elective areas.
We believe that business leaders must understand their role within a business organization (both for profit and not-for profit) and how individuals interact within an organization. Equally, business leaders should be engaged citizens of the world. To this end the student will complete one course from three of the following four areas. (Students should ideally take courses in these areas that count toward both the business in the liberal arts major and their chosen second major and/or general education requirements. Students double majoring in Economics and Business in the Liberal Arts may not take their business electives from courses taught in the economics department.)
