Memories of Patrice LeClerc

When I first arrived at St. Lawrence as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2012, my office was directly across from Patrice's. She was a warm and welcoming presence from my first day. When my father passed away a couple of weeks into that semester, she shared some wise words that I will never forget. Adam Harr, Professor of Anthropology

I am very sorry to hear of Patrice's passing. She and I were neighbors on the second floor of Piskor Hall when I arrived at St. Lawrence and she was always kind, always welcoming. May her memory be a blessing to her loved ones. Howard Eissenstat, Professor of History

Patrice...Dear friend, Great person, wonderful faculty member. She personified what it means to be a great teacher nurturing her dedicated students while she worked here. She cared about her SLU students fully and completely. But she also had a good and irreverent sense of humor. Lover her Canadian roots as well. I will miss her deeply. Mark MacWilliams, Professor of Religious Studies

Patrice was a great friend to me during our early years at St. Lawrence. She was fun and irreverent. I remember weekly gatherings at a colleagues house from Sociology, and then later weekly gatherings at Maegan Bos's house. There was always lots of laughter. I have missed her since she left SLU, and I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Catherine Jahncke, Professor of Physics

Patrice was an amazing mentor, teacher, and friend. My office was down the hallway from her preferred classroom in Piskor and I fondly remember overhearing her ask students at the beginning of each and every class, ‘What’s in the news?’ It was such a simple but effective way to get students engaged. Every time I start class in the same way, I think of Patrice. I was always so impressed with her no-nonsense, quick department meetings! She could get business taken care of so efficiently! Patrice so generously offered support, advice, and friendship in my early years at SLU as well as after her retirement. She was an inspiration, and it was an honor to have worked with and known her. Leah Rohlfsen, Professor of Sociology

Patrice was a smart, funny, compassionate and collaborative colleague and a really good person. I always enjoyed working with her in Sociology and Canadian Studies. She was a generous and insightful co-author on our work on the USA PATRIOT Act. I’m so sorry to read of her passing. I was just trying to reconnect to discuss US-Canada relations. I would have loved to hear her thoughts. Ken Gould, Professor of Sociology 1981-2006
