In Memory: Connie Villnave
Dear Laurentian community,
I write today with the sad news that Connie Villnave has died. Before her retirement in 2005, she worked in dining services as a baker for 23 years. For a generation of St. Lawrence students who eagerly gobbled down her baked goods, she blended comfort and food.
Connie was born in Potsdam, attended St. Lawrence Central School, and married Harold Villnave, Jr. in 1964.
She took great pride in her work and shared her enjoyment in crafting, sewing, baking and cooking. She always looked forward to visiting with family and friends, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Connie is survived by her husband, her three daughters, eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
As we grieve the loss of our friend and colleague, we are grateful to Connie for all she has done for this University. Like so many of us in higher education, Connie transformed her work into a kind of alchemy. Instead of iron, she used baking flour. And, better than making gold, she brought together Laurentians and nurtured the community to which we all belong today.
Please join us in celebrating Connie’s life by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.
Sincerely,
Kate Morris
