In Memory: Sharon Ober

Dear Laurentian community,

I write to share the sad news that Sharon Ober has died. As the former administrative assistant at St. Lawrence’s Physical Plant, she was an integral and highly valued member of the team that cares for this campus.

Originally from Potsdam, she worked at Montgomery Ward and the Canton-Potsdam Hospital before joining the staff at St. Lawrence.

In the memories shared by her family and friends, it’s clear that Sharon poured compassion into all aspects of her life. She shared her interests and humor in ways that forged meaningful connections to people and places on campus and across the North Country.

Sharon worked diligently at the University for 15 years and retired in 2009. She then dedicated herself to rescuing and caring for animals at the Potsdam Animal Shelter. As a volunteer, she played an important role in launching the Pets for Vets program, allowing veterans to adopt pets without cost. Sharon was also drawn to photography and loved taking pictures of her cherished grandchildren.

As a community, we pause to thank Sharon for her commitment to St. Lawrence and all the lives she touched. We honor our friend and colleague, even as we mourn her loss.

Please join us in celebrating Sharon’s life by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.

Sincerely,

Kate Morris
