In Memory: Winifred "Win" Gulick

Dear Laurentian community,

I write to share the sad news that Winifred “Win” Frazee Gulick GP’13 has died. As the wife of former University President W. Lawrence “Lawry” Gulick, Win made an indelible impact on this campus.

She was a graduate of Keuka College class of 1951. She met Lawry, a student at Hamilton College, on a blind date. They were married on October 18, 1952 and, shortly before her passing, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Win worked in the Dartmouth College athletic department and in the development office at Hamilton. Throughout her tenure at St. Lawrence as a Presidential spouse, she was committed to volunteerism and community service.

With help and encouragement from family and friends, Win created the Winifred Gulick Community Service Scholarship Endowment at St. Lawrence. The fund supports rising sophomore, junior, or senior students who served their communities while in high school and, by their continued involvement at St. Lawrence, demonstrate that community service is a priority in their lives.

Win’s family recalls her “good deeds,” her acts of kindness that showed her care for others. Whether giving jam to neighbors, helping area non-profits, or sharing her talent for sewing with others, she was always there to lend a helping hand.

She is survived by her husband, Lawry, their children Hans, Tod, and Kristina, five grandchildren — including Ryan Schaeffer ’13 — and one great-grandchild.

Gifts in memory of Win can be made to the Winifred Gulick Community Service Scholarship Endowment at St. Lawrence.

In our grief over the loss of our friend and colleague, we are grateful to Win for her service to St. Lawrence and our community. Those who knew her well recall how Win’s patience and her interest in listening to others shaped her creativity. It is our honor to remember her kindness and the way she expressed it as building blocks of the Laurentian family to which we belong.

Please celebrate Win Gulick’s life and work by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. Here, you can read the remembrances shared by others.

Sincerely,

Kate Morris
