SIGMA DELTA PI – THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE HISPANIC HONOR SOCIETY

Requirements for Membership
In order to be eligible for membership in of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society a student must have completed five (5) courses in Spanish at the 200 level or above, have a 3.4 grade average in Spanish courses, and have earned a 3.2 cumulative average overall. It is not necessary to be a major or minor in Spanish (Estudios Hispánicos) to join Sigma Delta Pi. The student must, however, submit a request to the department to be considered for membership, and if invited to join, the student must attend the induction ceremony. The one-time initiation fee is $25.00 to be paid by the deadline announced by the Department of World Languages, Cultures and Media before the induction ceremony is held. Induction ceremonies are held once per year in the Spring at the Senior Reception held by the Department of World Languages, Cultures and Media. Members receive a certificate, pin and, if they choose to purchase them, honor cords at a cost of $7.00 (which must be also be prepaid).
The Society's insignia is the royal seal of Fernando and Isabel, representing Castille, León and Aragón. Sigma Delta Pi's colors are red and gold, its flower is the red carnation, and its motto is the Greek phrase "Spanías Didagéi Proágomen" meaning "Let's go forth/continue forth under the teaching/guidance of the Spanish language."
