Deborah Bishop
Debbie has worked in the First-Year Program office since it began in 1987 and now holds the title of administrative secretary II. Previous to this position, she worked in the dean’s office in Vilas Hall for nine years.
She was born and raised in the North Country, graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in Russell, NY in 1974, graduated from Roethel’s Business School in Ogdensburg, NY in 1976 and received a Secretarial Science degree. She worked part-time for the St. Lawrence Plaindealer and for two surveyor offices in Canton.
One of Debbie’s passions is the Bishop Book Fund which was established in 2007 through the generosity of Deborah & W. Eugene “Gene” Bishop as well as family and friends. Prior to Gene’s death (April, 2010), he and Debbie decided to establish a fund that would give back to St. Lawrence, the institution where their professional dedication and employment totaled more than 55 years combined. The selection of the recipient(s) will be made by the director of financial aid or his/her designate after a student has been admitted. This book fund will help the student(s) purchase books for his/her first semester at St. Lawrence University. To make a donation, please visit Ways to Give on the Alumni website, select financial aid and note in the box that your donation is for the Bishop Book Fund.
Debbie enjoys spending her free time with her two daughters, Kimberly Farrow and Whitney Bishop '12, her two grandchildren and her family.
Debbie's favorite quote: You learn something new every day.
