Patrick Gagnon
Pat began working for Safety & Security in 1997, being appointed by Chief Richard Matte to assist with planning and oversight of the installation of a campus wide card access control system. He first served in the position of Safety & Security Officer while the card access control program transitioned from the planning stages to installation and implementation stages. At this point, he was appointed to the position of System Administrator, working directly with the campus community and the vendor. Pat was then promoted to the positions of Assistant Director and Associate Director / Deputy Chief, serving in leadership roles and as the department investigator. In 2003 and in 2004, Pat served as Interim Director of the department, and then was appointed to Director / Chief of Safety & Security in 2005. In 2006, he developed and started the St. Lawrence University Campus Safety & Security Academy, offering affordable, required training for university safety and security officers. The academy hosts safety and security officers from other private universities for a full week of training with the main goal of “training safety and security officers to better serve and protect their campus communities.” Pat holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership from Empire State College, a Certification in Homeland Security Level III, is a Licensed Private Investigator, is a NYS Certified Trainer in the Security Officer Program, and is a respected consultant in the university safety & security field having performed safety/security audits upon request, complex investigations and working with high end surveillance equipment. He is a lifelong resident of the area and in his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, hunting and riding ATVs.
