Saints Secure Liberty League Title, Sweep Opponents

• Women's Squash: The Saints secured their fifth Liberty League title on Sunday against Denison, overcoming a 4-2 deficit. Key performances from senior Meg Pruett and first-years Mariam Dodd and Angel Otshabeng propelled the team to their first championship since the 2021-22 season. Otshabeng was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
• Men's Squash: The men's team advanced to the Liberty League title match after defeating Bard 6-1 and sweeping Haverford 9-0 on Saturday. First-year Grégory Malsang earned the Most Outstanding Player award for the championships, marking the second consecutive year a Saint has received this honor.
• Women's Hockey: The Saints achieved a weekend sweep by defeating No. 9 Quinnipiac and, on Senior Day, No. 12 Princeton. These victories secured them a first-round bye and home-ice advantage in the best-of-three quarterfinals beginning February 28. Additionally, ECAC Hockey announced senior Taylor Lum as a nominee for the Mandi Schwartz Student-Athlete of the Year award. Junior Emma-Sofie Nordström was selected as one of nine semifinalists for the Hockey Commissioners Association Goalie of the Year award and is representing Team Denmark at the Olympic qualifiers.
• Women's Basketball: Over the weekend, the women's team went 2-0, edging RIT 55-52 and then delivering an offensive showcase to defeat William Smith 81-59. Sophomore Elizabeth Flynn and junior Caelan McHarney scored in double digits in each game. The Saints have won four of their past five contests.
• Men's Hockey: The Skating Saints secured a 4-4 tie and shootout win over Princeton on Saturday night. Junior Tyler Cristall led with two goals, while first-year Isaac Tremblay and sophomore Jan Olenginski each contributed a goal. Goaltender Dominic Basse clinched the shootout by stopping three of the Tigers' attempts.
• Swimming and Diving: Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams were recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams for the 2024 fall semester, each achieving a collective GPA over 3.3 to earn this academic distinction.

Saints Swim to Victory; Seasons Continue in Full Force

Saints women's swimming and diving dominated the competition this weekend. During a dual meet on Sunday, Maggie Wenger '24 and Katie Taberski '25 each won two events to lead the team to a 137-90 win over Saints Michael's while first-year Kevin Euyoque won the 200-meter butterfly for the men's team. Fiona Reiner '24, Lulu Rauch '25, Laura Bolduc '24, and Maggie Wenger '24 broke the Frank and Lee Augsbury Pool record in the 800-yard freestyle relay to lead the team to a 159-55 win over SUNY Potsdam on Friday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's squash securing a 7-2 win over the No. 26 Naval Academy while women's basketball defeated William Smith 99-84 and RIT 77-67 as the men's team beat RIT 69-64. During the Middlebury Winter Classic,  Michael Skutt '24 won the 3K and Eric Geier '23 won his 3rd straight 60-meter hurdles and Katherine Sheehy '23 won the 5,000 meters to lead the women's team. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Saints Celebrate Milestones, Earn Wins

Legends of Appleton/Men’s Hockey Centennial: The Saints men’s hockey program celebrates its 100th Anniversary and the 2025 Legends Weekend on November 14-15. Join us in Canton as we honor the legacy of Saints hockey and induct Tom O'Connor '75 and Ray Shero '84 into the Legends of Appleton. Click here for more information.

Men’s Soccer: Junior defender Baker Diaz earned All-Liberty League First Team honors. Seniors Ryan Campbell and Jeremy Ogango made the Second Team, and juniors Nicholas Petrone and Gustav Scheibler were named to the Third Team. The Saints placed sixth and qualified for the Liberty League tournament.

Women’s Squash: First-year Eboni Atherley was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week after helping the Saints open their season with a 7-0 sweep over Chatham on the road.

Women’s Soccer: Seniors Madison King-Thurber and Meredith Donahue earned All-Liberty League Second Team honors, while junior defender Chloe Bourque made the Third Team.

Men’s Swimming and Diving: The Saints defeated Bard 100-40, taking first in every event entered. First-year Logan Doody won three events.

Women’s Swimming and Diving: St. Lawrence rolled to a 148-31 win over Bard, sweeping all events at Augsbury Pool. Junior Gracie Ringer earned two first-place finishes.

Football: Senior running-back William Murray scored twice as the Saints held off Buffalo State 24-19. Senior Will Lederman passed for 258 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore Cole Phelan caught four passes for 113 yards. Senior kicker Clayton Fogler was named Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Week.

Women’s Hockey: Graduate student Alexa Davis scored the game-winner and senior Emma-Sofie Nordström made 45 saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Princeton.

Men’s Hockey: The Saints scored three goals in 3:40 late in the third to top RPI 4-3 on Friday night, splitting the weekend series.

COVID-19 Booster Clinic 

In accordance with public health recommendations, a COVID-19 vaccination booster is required for all St. Lawrence University students and employees within 30 days of becoming eligible. A free booster clinic will be offered Thursday, February 24 at the SUNY Canton campus. Register for the booster clinic.

Sophomore to Compete in 2022 Winter Paralympic Games

Sydney Peterson '24, a neuroscience major and member of Saints Nordic ski team, will represent Team U.S.A. as she competes for gold in Para Nordic Skiing at the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. Read her story. 

Former Saints Women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey Coach to be Honored with IWLCA Hall of Fame Induction

Longtime St. Lawrence women's lacrosse and field hockey coach Dotty Hall will be enshrined in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November. Hall was one of the most successful coaches in the history of Saints women's athletics with a combined win total of 306 victories in field hockey and lacrosse. Read her story. 

Saints Head to Liberty League Championships; Swim Program Records Shattered

The men’s and women’s track and field teams are headed to the Liberty League Championships after winning the SLU Open against SUNY Plattsburgh, Utica, Vermont, Mohawk Valley, and SUNY Potsdam last weekend. During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, the women's swimming and diving team shattered program records in the 800 freestyle relay and 4x400 freestyle as Maggie Wenger '24 set a new 100 freestyle program record. Over the weekend, men’s basketball defeated Union 81-62 to secure a first-round playoff game after topping Skidmore 65-64 and women’s basketball beat Skidmore 76-45 to secure their 20th win of the season. Men’s ice hockey defeated Cornell 2-1 in an overtime contest on Friday while women’s ice hockey skated to a 3-3 tie with Harvard last week and men’s tennis beat SUNY Oneonta 8-1 on Saturday. Random Acts of Kindness

Every year, the St. Lawrence community comes together and finds small ways to bring smiles to members of the North Country. Week of Fun and Rivalry!

Both men's and women's hockey teams went undefeated at Appleton Arena contests against Clarkson University. The St. Lawrence women's hockey team, ranked No. 9 nationally, went into their biggest weekend of the season and came out of it with a 1-0 win over No. 3 Clarkson in leg one of the Route 11 Rivalry. The men’s hockey team won their Saturday night game against the Golden Knights 2-1, jumping out with an early two-goal lead and sending 2,826 Saints fans into a frenzy. They held their lead into the third period for the win.

Maggie Wenger '24, along with one of the Saints relay teams, broke St. Lawrence pool records Saturday, as the Saints women’s swimming and diving team took two victories in a host tri-meet over Saint Michael’s and Wells College. Wenger '24 beat the 100-meter free record with a time of 53.46. The 800-meter free relay team of Wenger '24, Lulu Rauch '25, Katie Taberski '25, and Laura Bolduc '24 beat that record with a time of 8:11.31.

Men’s basketball won their eighth straight game, going 3-0 over the course of the week with victories over Clarkson, Bard, and Vassar.

Portraying St. Lawrence!

"Portraying St. Lawrence" honors the lives and contributions of three St. Lawrence community members, Margaret Kent Bass, Ernest M. Benedict, and Rev. Kathleen Buckley. During the public dedication ceremony we celebrated the honorees, their loved ones, and the artists by sharing their portraits with the entire St. Lawrence community.

Weekly Testing Clinic to Resume Normal Hours

The University's Weekly Testing Clinic hours have resumed their normal schedule. Testing will take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  in Eben Holden (South Room). For up-to-date testing information, visit the Always Forward website. 

University to Offer Booster Clinic

The University is partnering with St. Lawrence County Public Health to offer a booster clinic Thursday, January 27.  Appointments will be required and priority will be given to students. Students should check their inboxes for an email from Health Services.

Weekend Wins for Saints Athletics; Winter Sports Continue

Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving secured their fourth straight dual meet victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday after defeating SUNY Potsdam on Friday, while Women’s Ice Hockey celebrated three key ECAC Hockey victories last week against Princeton (4-1), Union (5-1) and RPI (4-0). The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s track and field teams winning their respective home invitationals against SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam, while the men’s ice hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3-1. Women’s Squash swept Georgetown 9-0 following a 5-4 victory over Dickinson, while Men’s Squash defeated Dickinson 7-2 after topping Brown 8-1 last week. Men’s Basketball secured a 78-52 win over Clarkson while Women’s Basketball defeated William Smith 84-69 after securing a 61-43 win over RIT and topping Clarkson 54-36 earlier in the week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Saints Post Dominant Wins 

Women’s Soccer: Senior Meredith Donahue tallied a goal and an assist as the women’s soccer team earned a balanced 4-0 win over Bard College at the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Saints improved to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in Liberty League play.

Football: Six touchdowns, including five from senior Will Lederman, powered St. Lawrence to a 45-14 Liberty League win over Hilbert on Saturday at Leckonby Stadium. Lederman passed for a career-high 341 yards and four touchdowns, completing 14 of 17 passes with a long of 73 yards. Senior Nicholas Huhtala added four catches for a career-best 137 yards, and senior Shea Goodwin recorded six receptions for 95 yards. Lederman was named LL offensive performer of the week, while first-year Luke Robillard picked up LL rookie of the week honors.

Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team posted a dominant week, defeating Clarkson 2-0 and Bard 3-0 to move to 2-2 in Liberty League play. First-year goalkeeper Zach Amato recorded back-to-back shutouts to earn Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors.

Women’s Swimming and Diving: Sophomore Lilly Mruzik, first-year Sophie Nelson, and the 200-yard medley relay team earned wins as the women’s swimming and diving team opened the season at the Union Quad Meet against Clarkson, Smith, and Union.

Men’s Golf: Junior Gabe Ward led the Saints at the Hamilton Invitational, finishing fourth at the par-72 Rome Country Club with a two-day total of 148 and eight birdies. Senior Ben DeBiase improved by nine strokes on Sunday to climb 14 spots and tie for 18th overall.

Men’s Cross-Country: Senior Nick Lyndaker earned his third Liberty League Performer of the Week honor following a standout run at the Paul Short Invitational. Competing in the 8k white race against several nationally ranked programs, the Canton native finished 13th overall in 24:44.9.

Saints Skate to ECAC Quarterfinals; Spring Sports Continue

Following a four-game series against Brown, Saints men’s hockey is advancing to the ECAC Quarterfinals where they’ll take on Quinnipiac beginning Friday, March 11 in Connecticut. After defeating Brown 4-1 on Friday, and falling in a 2-1 in an overtime contest, the Skating Saints secured a 4-3 winner-take-all victory on Sunday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women’s lacrosse beating SUNY Oneonta 18-8 and men’s lacrosse defeating SUNY Potsdam 16-5 in their season openers while men’s tennis dominated RIT 8-1. ECAC Hockey announced that for the second consecutive season, Lucy Morgan ’23 is the 2022 MAC Women’s Goaltender of the Year and the Liberty League named women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger '24 Rookie of the Year. Alpine skiing's Ava Mattsson '22, Nordic skiing's Emma Strack '25 and Brian Beyerbach '23, and men's track and fields' Timothy Boyce '25 will compete in the NCAA Championships this weekend. Peterson '24 Wins Silver at 2022 Winter Paralympic Games

Sydney Peterson'24 , a member of the Saints' Nordic ski team, won a silver medal in the women's long-distance classical technique during her 2022 Winter Paralympic Beijing Games debut in Beijing, China. Read about Sydney's victory.

Updated Spectator Policy

St. Lawrence Athletics remains committed to adhering to CDC, St. Lawrence County, NCAA SSI, and St. Lawrence University recommendations and protocols. Masking is now optional for fully vaccinated individuals attending athletic events and masks are required for unvaccinated individuals when inside athletic facilities. Saints to Compete in Liberty League Matchups

It was a great weekend to be a Saint! On Saturday, Saints men's basketball closed out the regular season with a 71-63 win over Union, the team's sixth straight victory, after topping Skidmore 65-55 on Friday. Both the men's and women's basketball teams will head to the Liberty League Semi-Finals this weekend. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints men's and women's tennis teams securing a pair of 9-0 wins over SUNY Oneonta at home on Saturday while men's hockey beat Cornell 1-0 on the road and women's hockey beat Princeton 3-1 at home after defeating Quinnipiac 4-1 on Friday.  During the CSA Team Nationals on Sunday, women's squash beat Haverford College 8-1 and several members of the Saints swimming and diving and track and field teams secured individual wins to qualify for league championships. Subject-Object Exhibition Available Online

Work curated for the Subject-Object Exhibition by Associate Professor of Art and Art History Sarah Knobel is available for online viewing thanks to a website she built with Cassandra Raye Pryce '22, whose work is featured in the show. The exhibition is currently on display at the Richard F. Virtual Organ Concert: Celebrating the Estey Organ

The pipe organ housed in Gunnison Memorial Chapel was built by the Estey Organ Company, one of the largest organ companies in the world. Sondra Goldsmith performs in this virtual recital celebrating the Estey organ. Watch the concert.

Saints Celebrate Wins; Winter Sports Continue

Men's Squash swept the competition to secure 5-4 wins over Bowdoin, Colby, and Bates while Women’s Squash dominated Colby 8-1. The weekend wins continued with Women’s Swimming and Diving securing their fifth straight dual meet victory over Utica as Women’s Ice Hockey defeated Dartmouth 6-2 to celebrate their fourth straight win. Men’s Basketball defeated Vassar 51-50 after topping Canton 76-53 last week while Women's Basketball topped Bard in both match-ups (68-49 and 72-56). Men’s Ice Hockey skated to a 4-4 tie against Clarkson. During the Lake Placid Super Tour, Leif Harvey '25, Lilli Thomas '25, and Emma Strack '25 posted top finishes for Saints Nordic Skiing while Kathleen Merchant ’22, Jackson Hamilton ’23, and Timothy Boyce ’25 won their respective events at the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Middlebury Invitationals.  For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores. Skating Saints Honor Teddy Balkind
