    2022 Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lecture with guest, Dr. Anthony Pinn

    - Sykes Commons Anthony B. Pinn received his BA from Columbia University, Master of Divinity, and Ph.D. in the study of religion from Harvard University. His research interests include religion and culture; humanism; and hip-hop culture. Pinn is the author/editor of over 35 books, including "Terror and Triumph: The Nature of Black Religion" and "The New Disciples."

    Saints Dominate Spring Break Competitions

    The scarlet and brown dominated their spring break competitions as Saints baseball secured wins over Fredonia (15-4), Hamilton (4-2),  Muhlenberg (21-6), and Thomas College (5-4, 6-1) while softball defeated Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 5-3) and Utica (2-6, 4-3). Women’s lacrosse topped Rochester 19-7 in the Liberty League opener after defeating Brockport 15-12 and Plattsburgh 18-7 while men’s lacrosse beat SUNY Cortland 14-8 and Western New England University 12-10. Men’s tennis defeated Bethel 7-2 after securing an 8-1 win over St. Scholastica at the UTSA National Campus while women’s tennis dominated New Paltz 8-1 after beating St. Scholastica 6-3. Women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger ’24 competed in several events at the NCAA Championships as Esports secured a 1-0 win over the University of Ottawa in a NACA Conference matchup. Women’s ice hockey’s Lucy Morgan ’23 was named a CCM/AHCA All-American for the 2021-22 season, Sanna Koivumäki ’22 of the women’s squash team has been selected to compete for her home country of Finland in the 2022 European Team Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Lewis Anderson ’25 was named Second Team All-American by the College Squash Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Five Alumni to Receive 2024 Awards from Alumni Executive Council

    St. Lawrence University’s Alumni Executive Council has announced that Patricia “Pat” Romeo-Gilbert ’74, P’09, Dr. Kathleen "KB" J. Brown ’79, Henry “Hank” A. Ashforth III ’80, and M. Keefe Gorman ’84, P’21 will receive Alumni Citations for their dedication and service to the Laurentian Community, while Eric “Rick” P. Ankerud ’78 will receive the Sol Feinstone Award for Humanitarian Service.

    Saints Lacrosse Teams Earn Bids to NCAAs

    The Saints Men’s and Women’s lacrosse teams are headed to the 2022 NCAA Tournaments! Continuing a record-breaking season, women’s lacrosse will face Tufts in a second-round game on May 15 in Medford, Massachusetts. After defeating Union 15-9 in the Liberty League Semifinal, the 10th in the nation-ranked men's team will head to Brunswick, Maine to matchup against SUNY Cortland on May 14. Success for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints Baseball defeating Vassar 20-5 and 5-4 while the riding team’s Fenn Novicki ’22 was named a National Champion and Allison Bauer ’22 earned Reserve National Champion honors at the IHSA Nationals. During the Liberty League Track and Field Championship, Kathleen Merchant ’22 won her third javelin title while Emma Palumbo ’25 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Kimberly Merchant ’22 won the discus. Saints Women’s Rowing closed out the 2021-22 season at the National Invitational Rowing Championships while the second Varsity 8 led the men's rowing team with a first-place finish at the Great Adirondack Boat Race at Long Lake.     Exhibition: Change Is a More Accurate Measure of Time Photographs by Mark Klett, SLU class of 1974

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Mark Klett’s graduation from St. Lawrence University in 1974. The show features 12 photographs from "El Camino del Diablo," a project based on a journey by a young mining engineer, Raphael Pumpelly, through Arizona and Mexico in 1861 on “the road of the devil.”

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery This exhibition underscores the essential elements of the environment — water, air, earth — and their degradation caused by storms, fire, and drought often brought about by human pursuits. Photographs and videos on display reflect the relationship between the physical and metaphysical, serving as a spiritual, biophilic statement that highlights the environmental challenges that contemporary societies confront.

    Saints Hit a Winning Streak and Secure First Place Victories

    Field Hockey—Junior Caroline Hamilton scored two goals, including a dramatic go-ahead goal in the dying seconds of the game, and senior Cara Vredenburg made 16 saves as field hockey earned a conference victory in the Liberty League opener, 2-1 over Skidmore. The win is St. Lawrence’s third straight victory.

    Men’s Rowing—The 2024-25 fall portion of the schedule opened at the Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta in Scotia, N.Y. on Sunday. With five boats in the men's 2V race, St. Lawrence's 'B' boat with first-year Luke Rucolas and senior Sam Sternhagen placed first with a time of 15:00.62.

    Women’s Rowing—The 2024-25 fall portion of the schedule opened at the Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta in Scotia, N.Y. on Sunday. The Saints 'A' Varsity 8 rowed to a first-place finish, recording a time of 15:29. 67.

    Women’s Hockey—Three different Saints scored, including a first-career goal for first-year Alexia Côté, as eighth-ranked women's hockey opened the 2024-25 season with a 3-0 win over Merrimack in a Friday morning game at Lawler Rink. St. Lawrence moved to 1-0-0 on the season, while Merrimack fell to 0-1-0. Côté took ECAC Hockey Bitcoin Rookie of the Week honors for the performance. 

    Men’s Tennis—Senior Edvin Strandberg was the lone Saint to represent men’s tennis at the ITA Northeast Regionals on the campus of Drew University, and advanced to the Round of 16 yesterday with a pair of wins. This morning, Strandberg went to a tiebreak in the opening game losing 6-7 (3) and fell 0-6 in the final game to end his run. The team will be back in action in February.

    Last Friday’s Math and Everything event brought together 250 young women from North Country high schools, along with students, faculty, and alumni, for a day of learning and exploration. From career panels to interactive sessions on AI, neuroscience, and more, there was so much to explore.     St. Lawrence Announces $500,000 Gift to Fund the Ken Okoth Black American Music Project

    Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, St. Lawrence will honor the life and impact of a beloved Laurentian with the Ken Okoth ’01 Black American Music Project, which celebrates Black music history through visual displays, lectures, seminars, and live performances.

    Saints Dominate in Florida; Conclude Winter Seasons

    Several Saints are dominating the competition in on-the-road matchups in Florida. Women’s tennis defeated Coe College 6-3 as softball beat Macalester 1-0 and New Paltz 8-3, and baseball swept Colby-Sawyer 2-1 and 8-3. Women’s lacrosse is on a winning streak after defeating Oswego 18-7 at home and Saint Michael’s 13-6 on the road while men’s lacrosse dominated SUNY Geneseo 20-6 and Nazareth 16-7. Timmy Boyce ’25 set a programmatic indoor record in the 800m at the NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships and the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association announced that Lucy Morgan ’23 is a finalist for the Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. The Liberty League named squash players Lewis Anderson '25 Performer of the Year and Anannya Morey '25 Co-Rookie of the Year while tapping several squash players for the All-Liberty League Team and naming Scott Denne and Jamie Oakley Coaching Staff of the Year. The Skating Saints concluded its season after falling to Quinnipiac in the ECAC Quarterfinals while Alpine skiing’s Ava Mattson ’22 and Nordic skiing’s Brian Beyerbach '23 and Emma Strack '25 wrapped up their seasons at the NCAA Championships in Utah.     Peterson '24, Team USA Win Gold in Mixed Relay Race

    Sydney Peterson '24 and Team U.S.A. won its first-ever mixed relay gold medal to close out the cross-country competition at the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. This is the third Paralympic medal for Sydney, who claimed bronze in women's free technique standing and silver in women's long-distance classical technique during her Paralympic Winter Games debut.     President Morris, New York Six Presidents Pen Joint Letter in Support of Increased Pell Grant Funding

    St. Lawrence University President Kathryn A. Morris joined together with the presidents of the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium member institutions to send a joint letter to the United States Congress members representing their districts, asking them to support doubling the Pell Grant for qualified students.

    Professor Publishes Book on Religion and Politics

    Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Damon Berry has published a new book, “Christianity and the Alt-Right: Exploring the Relationship.” The book’s publisher, Routledge, describes it as “a must-read for those interested in religion in America, religion and politics, evangelicalism, and religion and race.”

    Wednesday, August 25; 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Gunnison Memorial Chapel

    President Morris and Dean Schonberg will introduce our new faculty and staff colleagues, recognize newly tenured and promoted faculty colleagues, and recognize faculty colleagues newly appointed to endowed professorships. The Keene, Maslow, Taylor, and Coakley awards will also be presented.

    In-person attendees must be masked per the University's current masking policy. Those not in attendance may watch the program via the livestream.
