St. Lawrence students in the New York City Semester Program, directed by Dr. Mert Kartal, visited the United Nations (UN) Headquarters during the 79th UN General Assembly.
On September 10th, 2024, the 16 students enrolled in St. Lawrence’s New York City Semester Program, directed by Dr. Mert Kartal (Associate Professor of Political Science), had a unique opportunity to visit the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in the city during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
During their 90-minute visit, students witnessed the historic moment when Cameroon’s former prime minister assumed the presidency of the General Assembly. They also had the chance to catch an address by UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the breath-taking UN General Assembly Hall.
The students toured several UN institutions and gained valuable insights into the UN’s history, its mission, and its ongoing efforts to achieve its ambitious goals for international peace, security, and sustainable development.
