St. Lawrence University has named Stephen Hietsch as the next vice president for finance and administration, President William L. Fox announced on May 15. Hietsch will begin his duties at St. Lawrence in July.
Hietsch is currently the associate vice president for budget and auxiliaries at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania – a role he has held since 2012. He has also served in various positions in higher education and in local government, including as manager for the Borough of Carlisle.
“Steve brings a wealth of experience and skills to the St. Lawrence community,” Fox said. “He has experience and background in a liberal arts environment and a keen understanding of our financial model. He understands the complexity of long-range and annual budget planning and development, as well as auxiliary services. Steve’s collaborative nature and time in local government will serve our community well in the coming years.”
Hietsch will replace Jan Albano, who has served as acting chief financial officer since December. The search committee was made up of trustees, faculty, staff and students and was chaired by Trustee Earl “Trip” Samson ’80.
Hietsch holds a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in history and a master’s degree of public administration from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
Hietsch will be joined by his wife, Becky, who is a registered nurse and healthcare administrator. They have a daughter who teaches English in Madrid, Spain, and a son who is studying chemical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University.
