St. Lawrence Sees Record-Breaking Application Numbers
St. Lawrence has surpassed its previous admissions application record for fall 2022 following several successful initiatives focused on reducing barriers to college entry and reimagining a liberal arts education in the 21st century.
The applicant pool for fall 2022 shows a 14.2% increase in applications from last year and includes students from 47 states, the Districts of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and 124 countries outside the United States, representing nearly 1900 separate high schools.
“This record number of applications is a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of our faculty and staff whose efforts have enhanced the St. Lawrence experience despite the challenges of the pandemic,” said Florence Hines, vice president for enrollment management and dean of admissions and financial aid. “Over the last two years, we have developed new in-demand majors, launched a new Career Commitment, reduced barriers to entry, and showcased the spirit of St. Lawrence with the launch of our new website.”
As a result of Experience St. Lawrence: The Task Force on Institutional Structure, Policy, and Planning, St. Lawrence recently added new majors in digital media and film, data science, and finance that will attract applicants who are eager for robust career preparation, networking, and mentoring programs.
St. Lawrence has been a leader in reducing barriers to college entry for students. In August 2021, the University dropped its $60 application fee, ensuring that everyone who wishes to apply to St. Lawrence can do so regardless of financial circumstances, and for over 15 years, St. Lawrence has been SAT/ACT optional for all applicants.
With a bold and comprehensive approach to career development, St. Lawrence's alumni network, ranked third in the nation by The Princeton Review, and The Center for Career Excellence continue to offer robust signature programs like the LINC Mentor Program, SLU Connect, and Laurentians in Residence. In addition, St. Lawrence has recently developed new career courses and opportunities for students to create personalized career strategies.
“This generation of students are thinking about the world around them and making informed decisions for their future. The dynamic nature of their liberal arts education paired with our signature career preparation programs ensures that St. Lawrence students excel in high-demand fields for years to come,” said Hines. “We are fortunate to attract some of the world’s best and brightest applicants and are eager to welcome the Class of 2026 to the St. Lawrence community.”
St. Lawrence’s regular decision application closed Feb. 1. Students interested in transfer admission can apply before March 1, 2022.
