Veterinarian FAQ's
How can I gain shadowing/hands-on experience?
Start local, by contacting the veterinarian’s office in your home area - maybe the vet who cares for your pet! Here at SLU, the LINC program in Career Services (open to first-year students) may be able to connect you to a SLU alumni who can help.
Where can I find more information about veterinary careers?
More information about pursuing a career in veterinary medicine can be found by visiting the websites of the organizations listed below:
-
American Veterinary Medical Association
- Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges
- VMCAS (Veterinary Medical College Application Service)
Early Assurance Programs
Some Early Assurance Programs for DVM studies are available that SLU students could apply to at the end of their sophomore year. Search online for Early Assurance Program, DVM to find options. Plan ahead (during your first year!), as specific courses and sometimes the GRE exam must be completed at the time of application.
