The Caribbean, Latin American, and Latino Studies Awards

CLAS offers two awards every year: The Caribbean, Latin American, and Latino Studies Excellence in Research, writing and Creative Work Award and The Caribbean, Latin American and Latino Studies Excellence in Service Award.

The CLAS Excellence in Research, Writing and Creative Work Award

The purpose of the Research Award is to encourage, acknowledge, value and promote students' interest and passion for research in the CLAS interdisciplinary field.

Submission guidelines:

  • Students who submit work to be considered for this award should be CLAS minors.
  • The portfolio of work can be in English, Spanish, and/or any other language relevant to the region, as long as it relates to CLAS.
  • The application deadline is February 25th of each year.
  • The portfolio of work should be submitted electronically to the CLAS coordinator: Martha Chew Sanchez, email: mchew@stlawu.edu
  • If electronic submission is not possible, please contact the coordinator to discuss an alternative form of submission.

Award decisions: CLAS faculty will meet and make decisions on the award.

The CLAS Excellence in Service Award

The purpose of the Service Award is to encourage, acknowledge, value and promote students' interest and passion for CLAS-related activities on campus and outside the campus.

Submission guidelines:

  • Nominations for this award should come from CLAS faculty, and should discuss how the nominee satisfies the criteria.
  • The application deadline is February 25th of each year.
  • Nominations should be submitted electronically to the CLAS coordinator: Martha Chew Sanchez, email: mchew@stlawu.edu

Award decisions: CLAS faculty will meet, discuss nominees and make decisions on the award.
