Summer Internship and Fellowship Funding Opportunities
St. Lawrence University offers students a wide variety of internship/fellowship/grant opportunities.
In the summer of 2024, students will be eligible for nearly 180 funding opportunities, with more than $700,000 available for stipends and expenses!
Taking part in these opportunities allows you to gain real-world experience, extend your education outside of the classroom and build your resume. Internship/Fellowship Program | Brief Description | Eligibility |
CIIS Fellows Program | The CIIS Fellows Program provides funding for a faculty member and one to three students to pursue research and share an off-campus working experience in a significantly different cultural setting. The students' research will not be credit-bearing though it may lay the foundation for future academic work and will involve learning essential research skills. | Returning studens who are sponsored by a member of the faculty |
Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) | Funded community-based experiential learning activities and mentored research projects that promote access to careers in math, science, technology and the licensed professions, such as law, medicine and other healthcare specialties | Members of CSTEP |
Freeman Foundation SLU Asia Internship Prorgram | Funds eight-week internships in the designated area(s) that fits students' academic and career goals | Current FYs, sophomores and juniors |
Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program | Students named McNair Scholars receive grant-funded stipends to conduct research on campus during the summer. | Members of the McNair Scholars Program |
Projects for Peace | Funds innovative, community-centered grassroots projects to be implemented over the summer that are intended to build peace anywhere in the world | All students |
St. Lawrence University Public Interest Corps (SLU PIC) | Links talented and passionate St. Lawrence students and recent graduates with North Country public interest and non-profit organizations to provide services and develop the next generation of leaders | All students |
St. Lawrence Research Fellowship Program (SLU Fellows) | Provides new opportunities for student intellectual growth through a paid, 8-week mentored research experience with a faculty member; supports students in undertaking new initiatives that require special financial support and promotes close student-faculty collaboration outside the regular academic classroom | Current FYs, sophomores and juniors |
St. Lawrence University Internship Fellowship Program | Financial support for students in unpaid/underpaid internships or research experiences, with specific funding set aside for internships in data science and public health | All students |

Freeman Foundation SLU Asia Internship Program

Award amount: The Freeman Foundation helps to cover internship placement, housing in the local country, utility, local country health insurance, and a stipend to help pay for airfare and meals.

Award amount: $2,800 research stipend plus room and board, research materials and conference presentations.
