John W. Hannon Jr. Honors Award
Given to a senior economics major as recognition of outstanding academic performance.
Named in honor of John W. Hannon, Jr. '44 (1922-2000). As a student he was secretary/treasurer of Thelmo, an outstanding athlete and a member of the Campus Council. After serving as an officer in the Army Air Force during World War II and a short pitching career on a New York Yankees farm team, in 1946 he began a successful career in banking and finance, retiring as president of the Bankers Trust New York Corporation in 1983. He was elected a University trustee in 1968 and from 1983 to 1988 was chairman of the board. A member of the Athletic Hall of Fame, he received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from St. Lawrence in 1989.
