March 2021 Safety Committee Minutes

MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, MARCH 5, 2021 STARTING AT 8:00 AM.

Approval of the Minutes

New Business:

The EHS Department has developed 2 online forms to digitize the workflow of employee accident and near miss reporting, as well as hazard and safety suggestions.  Nick Ormasen presented the new forms, solicited feedback, and answered questions from the committee.  The finalized forms will be linked from the EHS website and go live the week of 3/8/21 at https://www.stlawu.edu/environmental-health-and-safety/accidentincident-form

A concern of ice and snow safety at the Dana Dining Hall wheelchair entrance was brought to the committee. The last snowmelt ice and snow came off the roof heavily and could have injured someone. 

A concern of smoking within 30 feet from a building issue was also brought to the committee. Lots of smoking around Student Center near entrances and cigarette smoke is coming into building at times.

Old Business: None on agenda.

Tabled:

Pet Policy needs to be rebuilt and a committee has been formed: Sharmela Garcia-Martin, Stacie Olney-LaPierre and Pat Gagnon. Debra Mousaw from Human Resources will be joining the committee. Initial Meeting has been scheduled for November 18th.  Evelyn Jennings will serve on this committee as well; researching other schools’ policies is underway.  In discussing with NYS6 all schools acknowledge that pets are welcome on campus on a leash; the complaints have come in that pets are in office/residential spaces The committee that was formed to discuss/update policy will be meeting prior to next Safety Committee meeting.

Review Integrated Pest Management Plan –Suna reported that she met with Marcus Sherburne, Melissa Miller, Bruce Streeter and Ryan Strate and has corresponded with David Geleta to review the draft plan.  She is making edits based on the meeting.  Marcus Sherburne will be preparing a Grounds pesticide application plan in April.

It is requested that any new business to be added to the Agenda be forwarded to Susan Johnson no later than March 26th, 2021.

Future Meetings:

Meetings will be held via Zoom from 8am-9am. Dates of future meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month: 4/2/2021, 5/7/2021 and 6/4/2021
