New Business:
- Concern about unleashed dogs on campus: “Sometimes dogs are on campus from the community that don’t have a leash how is this monitored?”
When an unleashed dog on campus is reported to Security an Officer will respond and address the incident. The committee discussed avenues to
communicate to the broader Canton community about rules regarding pets on campus including signage and communication with invited visitors to
University-sponsored events. Nick Ormasen has contacted University Communications to discuss options and will report back to the committee at a
future meeting. It was noted that per University policy only service dogs are allowed in the Bookstore and Student Center. Tabled
Service animal-related concern: “Student concern with people from the community not adhering to students with Service Animals. How does the University
handle these types of situations and what should students do if they are feeling threatened by another person’s dog?”
Anyone feeling threatened by another person’s dog should contact Security. A person with a concern about a member of the community not adhering
to the Service and Assistance Animal Policy may report that to Policy Administrators Sharmela Garcia-Martin or Lindsey Cohen.
The Policy is located here: https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/human-resources/service-and-assistance-animal-policy. Closed
- Dumpsters Behind Dana: The dumpsters have not been placed back in their proper location after they are picked up which could limit access to emergency vehicles.
The issue has been brought to Casella’s attention and they will place them in the correct location after pickup. Closed
NYS Fire Fall Inspection Update: The first round of inspections has begun and will continue throughout the month of October. Some of the most common infractions include microwaves and refrigerators plugged into a power strip, candles in rooms/smoking in rooms, tapestries on ceilings, and extension cords used incorrectly. Jim Kozsan thanked
Dean Manley for the great work submitting accurate and timely work orders so corrective action can be completed quickly by Facilities.
Employee Accident and Near Miss Reporting Reminder: Employees are required to complete an accident report within 24 hours of an accident and must let their supervisor know immediately.
It is important to complete the form even if you think you don't require medical attention. It often happens that medical attention isn't needed until well after an accident takes place, and filing
claims is more difficult if there is no corresponding accident report. Delays in reporting accidents have a direct impact on the University’s insurance rates. If medical aid is required, Safety and Security
should be notified. It is also important that a near miss is reported promptly so corrective action can be taken. A near miss is an event that could have led to an injury. The reporting
form is available online at https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/environmental-health-and-safety/incidentinjury-form
