Green Bank Workshop 2022
Physics majors Hailee Perkins '22, Tyler Karasinski '24 and Lesley Reyes '25 accompanied astronomers Aileen O'Donoghue and Jeffrey Miller to the 2022 Undergraduate ALFALFA Team (UAT) Workshop, from June 21 - 25 at the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia. This was the first in-person workshop for the UAT since 2019. The observatory is home to the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world. Observing was not possible because the telescope was undergoing maintenance, but they still had the chance to take a tour throughout the structure. They did have the opportunity to work with students and faculty from 6 other academic institutions, studying the intricacies of the Baryonic Tully-Fisher Relationship and what it can tell us about the properties of galaxies.
