Observing at AO - Nov. 2019

Haille Perkins '22 accompanied Providence College astronomer Dr. Joseph Ribaudo and his student Olivia Jo Dickinson to the Arecibo Observatory for 5 nights of observing between November 24 and 28, 2019. During their time at the observatory, they toured the facilities and became proficient observing using the L-Band Wide (LBW) instrument on the telescope to examine galaxies and other interesting objects discovered during the ALFALFA survey.

Haille's visit was the last on-site observing run made by any members of the UAT before the observatory was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and then the catastrophic collapse of the telescope in December 2020.
