UAT Workshop 2017
The tenth NSF-sponsored Undergraduate ALFALFA Workshop was held at the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia on June 13 - 16, 2017. The Workshop is part of the NSF-sponsored Undergraduate ALFALFA Team program to promote undergraduate research within the ALFALFA project. Attendees work together on group projects, and are given tours of the radio telescopes at the observatory, including the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world's largest fully steerable single aperture antenna. The workshop was attended by 18 students and their faculty mentors from 13 undergraduate institutions.
SLU astronomers Dr. Aileen O'Donoghue and Jeffrey Miller attended the workshop, where they met SLU alum Evan Smith '16. Evan has been employed at the observatory since graduation, and will enter the Ph.D. program in Physics at West Virginia University in the fall.
