Provisions for Students with Neurodiverse, Mental Health and or Medical Conditions

Student Accessibility Services was established to assist students on the St. Lawrence campus who have specific learning styles, mental health and or medical condition(s).   A student who is admitted to St. Lawrence and has a neurodiverse background, mental health and or medical condition(s) must present written documentation by a licensed professional who has diagnosed the student according to the definition of neurodiverse background, mental health and or medical condition as stated in Section 5, Part B of Public Law 94-142, November 1975.

St. Lawrence grants "reasonable accommodations" to documented students with a neurodiverse, mental health and or medical condition as established by the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Such accommodations, which are the student's responsibility to request, are granted as needed on a case-by case basis, and are arranged by the student and professor upon consultation with the director or assistant director of Student Accessibility Services.   All requests for accommodations must be supported by appropriate documentation provided by the student.   Anyone who has a neurodiverse, mental health and or medical condition is provided counsel on the facilities, equipment and accommodations available at St. Lawrence.   Academic requirements that are an essential part of the University's educational goals may be accommodated, but may not be waived.

Further information about St. Lawrence University's accommodation policy is available from the director or assistant director of Student Accessibility Services.  To make an appointment call (315) 229-5537 or email studentaccessibility@stlawu.edu.
