Managing Your Loans
Financing a college education today frequently requires obtaining a student loan. It is important for borrowers to understand how the loan process works and what their repayment requirements will be. Information regarding Federal Student Loans is available:
Prior to graduation, students are required to complete exit counseling to ensure they understand their responsibilities for repayment. A publication of the U.S. Department of Education borrowers guide which fully explains the exit counseling process and links to the online sites for completing exit counseling is available below.
Federal Student Loans are disbursed by St. Lawrence University while a student is enrolled but serviced by a third party selected by the U.S. Department of Education. The servicer is responsible for billing, collection, and processing of deferment and forbearance requests. Loan servicers will contact borrowers about repayment but it is the responsibility of the borrower to notify the loan servicer of any change in name, address, or phone number. Federal Loans to parents, referred to as Parent PLUS Loans are also administered by third-party loan servicers. Borrowers are encouraged to fully understand their repayment and consolidation options for these loans and to view their loan history and status using the sites below.
