Tara Freeman
Tara Freeman has served as a member of the University Communications team at St. Lawrence for more than 20 years beginning her career as the university’s photographer in 2000. She progressively earned more responsibilities becoming director of visual communications in 2018 and then director of visual communications and creative strategy in 2019. She was promoted into her current position of Assistant Vice President for University Communications in 2023 in recognition for her outstanding leadership and service to St. Lawrence.
In her current role, Tara provides leadership and assists with University Communications divisional strategy. She establishes the conceptual and strategic direction for visual and creative projects and leads the team in all aspects of the development of strategy, planning, and execution of visual and creative communications. She manages the St. Lawrence brand and licensing program and oversees office services.
In 2018 she was recognized by the University as the winner of the John P. “Jack” Taylor Distinguished Career Service Award. The honor recognizes distinguished service to the University by an administrator who has worked at St. Lawrence for a minimum of twelve years and who sustains the high standards of performance. Its purpose is to recognize devotion to students and workmanship of high quality in a well-respected member of the campus community.
Tara also serves as the primary university photographer and has been a professional photographer since 1997. Before coming to St. Lawrence, she was a staff photographer at the Olean Times Herald, a daily newspaper in Olean, N.Y.
Tara has a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from St. Bonaventure University.
