European Studies Department
For millennia, Europe has been a crossroads of diverse cultures, developing a rich fabric of beliefs and ways of living. Europe has also profoundly shaped the history and culture of the entire globe over the last several centuries. By engaging in a critical examination of European society and the meaning of “Europeanness,” European studies minors develop an understanding of the relationship of Europe to the rest of the world and explore global cultural, economic, and political issues of historical and contemporary interest. The minor includes an emphasis on experiential learning, integrating off-campus study in Europe and an independent study capstone project, which helps prepare students for graduate study and globally-oriented careers. Students who minor in European studies at St. Lawrence go on to careers in diplomacy, international business, education, the arts, and a great many other fields.
