The Grand Tour, often associated with the expression the "Voyage to Italy," was one of the best features of the European aristocratic education in the 17th and 18th centuries, but was also the cultural practice that turned Sorrento into an international tourism destination.
In partnership with St. Lawrence University, Sant'Anna Institute held a conference on this topic on July 10th, thanks to the participation of experts on the field coming from Italy, Europe and the United States. During the conference, the panelist explored and discussed the early travels and accounts that preceded the epoch of the Grand Tour, as well as the legacy of such tradition in cinematic and literary narratives.
Patricia Richards, a panelist and professor at Kenyon College, said about the conference: “I enjoyed the cordial, relaxed and attentive attitude at the conference. The variety of approaches to the topic gave the gathering a special flavor. I enjoyed hearing the particular interests of each of the participants and am grateful to have been included.”
