About Our Program

Our digital media and film program empowers you to think critically and creatively about the highly mediated world around you as you explore present-day society, global power structures, and representations of identity through a variety of lenses. 

You’ll gain hands-on experience with new media technologies as you tell impactful stories through podcasting, filmmaking, photography, citizen journalism,  graphic design, and more. 

As you collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty, you’ll hone your creative voice and develop the skills needed to make an impact in the rapidly evolving media industry.

Learning Experiences to Prepare for Your Career

Find your creative voice as you put your knowledge into action with hands-on learning through campus competitions, volunteer experiences, and internships.

The Weave News

Put your knowledge into the world and share the work you’re doing with a broader audience through written reporting, podcasting, or photojournalism. Weave News is an independent media project of the global studies department that investigates underreported stories across the globe thanks to an active and engaged network of current students, alumni, and citizen journalists. Not interested in reporting? You can also gain experience with social media management, graphic design, or grant writing.

Richard F. Brush Art Gallery

With a permanent collection of 7,000+ art and art artifacts and regularly rotating exhibits, conservation projects, and campus displays, the Brush Art Gallery empowers you to explore art, analyze art artifacts, and evaluate human interactions with designs.

Digital Portfolio

As you conclude your four years at St. Lawrence, you’ll assemble a collection of your work in the form of a digital portfolio, a tool to give you a competitive edge as you explore your career options. 

The Underground

A peer-reviewed journal, this publication features student creative work, visual art, and scholarly insights in the areas of performance and communication arts, art and art history, film, gender, and fine arts. Explore a topic of interest and advance scholarship within the St. Lawrence community.

Newell Center for Arts Technology Lab

A hub for innovative interdisciplinary efforts, the Newell Center for Arts Technology will expose you to the possibilities that exist when art meets digital technology. You’ll also have the opportunities to check out filmmaking equipment so you can gain hands-on experience ideating, filming, and editing your own productions.
