An Invitation to the Brush Alumni House
The Brush Alumni House is open to all members of the St. Lawrence community. This includes alumni, faculty and staff, parents, guests of the University (e.g., candidates and department guest speakers), and prospective students and their families. Current students are not eligible to reserve a room for themselves or for someone else (i.e., parents or friends). The cost per room is $100.00 per night. Reservations cannot be made more than three months in advance of the requested date. We prefer that payment be received in advance. Personal checks, cash, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted), or a budget transfer are the accepted methods of payment. Cancellations should be made 24-hours prior to scheduled arrival time.
Downstairs rooms are available for meetings, gatherings or retreats free of charge. Use of these rooms must have an educational purpose and follow the same guidelines of other special University facilities. Space will be reserved as long as it does not interrupt the academic and educational mission of the University. The University reserves the right to refuse use of space.
Meetings should start no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and end by 10:00 p.m. as a courtesy to our overnight guests. It is expected that each group will be responsible for cleaning up and leaving the facility as you found it.
If planning a meal with dining services, we ask that it be for no more than 10 as the dining room only accommodates that many. The deck and patio, however, can be used for larger groups.
Guests should not assume that if they have rented a room(s) that they have rented the whole house.
There are only a few times when the Brush Alumni House is not available (e.g. Commencement Weekend, Laurentian Weekend, Reunion Weekend, and Alumni Council and Trustee Weekends in the fall, winter, and spring).
In case of emergencies, please call Security and Safety at X5555 and explain your needs.
General Information
For your security, personal identification codes (PIN) are provided to you to enter the front door and your room. Codes will work after 2:00 p.m. on the day you check in and expire at NOON on the day you are scheduled to check out. Security has a list of guests and their codes should you forget or lose your code. You may contact them at x5555.
Parking is located at the side of the building. A temporary parking pass is provided to each guest (only one pass per room). Guests with a second car may park in the public lot behind Beta Theta Pi. Cars without a Brush Alumni House parking pass may be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.
Our phones will allow you to make local calls (dial 8 to get an outside line) and to access an 800 number. Calling cards must be used to make long distance calls. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the house (Requirements: Laptop Computer 802.11a, b, g, Wireless Adapter, Windows XP, Vista or Mac OSX 10.3). You may also gain access to the internet by adding the number 8 to the pre-programmed number already in your computer. NOTE: If you're an AOL user choose the Ogdensburg local access number (8-1-315-393 or 394 exchange). Please call Phil Trivolino at x5918 or James Mattice at x5318 if you need assistance. There is only one line in each room, so computer use will tie up that line. In addition, computers with Internet access are also available with a guest pass at the ODY Library.
Sorry, but pets are not allowed in the building with the exception of service animals for disabled individuals. There are boarding facilities in the area that could accommodate your pets, if needed.
The entire building is smoke-free.
If you have young children to accommodate, please speak to the student host. There are no cribs or cots available.
The temperature of the Brush Alumni House is set at 70 degrees during the winter. It is only adjustable by the staff and if your accommodations are too warm, we suggest opening a window for cooler air. If you are too cold, please notify the student host and the temperature can be adjusted to a more comfortable level.
There is a coffee machine, stove and microwave oven for your use. Please help yourself to supplies in the cupboards or the refrigerator. You may choose to stock the refrigerator with whatever you would like for your stay. We suggest labeling of items for personal use. We ask that you please be responsible for your own dishes and take your unused food items with you.
For your safety, there are fire extinguishers in a number of locations throughout the house. In the event of a fire, please follow the exit signs out of the building. You can dial 911 directly or dial X5555 to reach our Security and Safety office. The back door can be exited at any time, but it is permanently locked from the outside. All doors operate in that way. Please make sure to have your access code with you at all times.
It is expected that if there are any damages that occur during your stay, you will notify us of such and be liable for payment of those damages. Amenities Extra towels, linens, light bulbs, fans and paper products are in the upstairs closets.
