221. General Ecology.
A study of the factors influencing the abundance and distribution of
species, including interactions between individuals and their physical/
chemical environment, population dynamics and the structure/
function of communities and ecosystems and their responses to
disturbance. Labs are field-oriented and emphasize characteristics
of local communities or specific techniques such as estimation of
population density. Lectures and one lab per week. Prerequisites:
Biology 101,102 or equivalent or permission of instructor. Also offered
as Environmental Studies 221 and through Outdoor Studies.
