General Information
Student Leader Selection Process
Recruitment for all of our Student Leader positions begins in the fall semester and goes through the application process in the spring semester. Please look out for our advertisements about our “Recruitment Rally” events. You can find information about these events on flyers across campus, on Involve, or the Student Center Instagram page.
Every spring semester Campus Activities & Residential Engagement office coordinates the Student Leader Selection process to hire Community Assistants (CA), Orientation Leaders (OL) and First-Year Mentors (FYM) for the upcoming academic year. During this process we look for students that will show a commitment to building positive community and developing their potential as future leaders.
While we have many of our Student Leaders return from year to year, we are always looking for new folks to join our fantastic team. If you are interested in becoming a student leader, pay attention for informational emails, posters, and on our Involve event page for announcements with details about the application process. The dates and deadlines are different each semester, but applicants must complete the same steps to be considered. The steps for New-Hire Applicants are:
- Fill out an application for new hires. This includes some short essay questions, a copy of your resume, and submission of reference information. Applications can be found via Handshake or Involve.
- For resume help or interview prep, please make an appointment with the Center for Career Excellence.
- Attend one of two Group Process sessions in March (dates TBD) hosted by the entire Campus Activities & Residential Engagement team. You will receive an email regarding your Group Process Session once your application is received.
- Complete an individual interview with 1 current Student Leader and 1 Professional Staff member/Senior Community Assistant
- Look for an email from Maverick Cummings that will indicate whether or not we are able to offer you a position. Decisions take a couple of weeks post-interview to process.
