Chemistry students working in lab

Departmental Learning Goals

Department Learning Goals

  1. Describe how atomic and molecular level structure impacts observable properties and reactivity.
  2. Use a variety of models to understand and explain chemical phenomena, being aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Apply thermodynamic and kinetic principles to explain chemical reactions.
  4. Develop safe and effective chemical laboratory skills that require use of the methods and instrumentation of modern chemistry.
  5. Construct scientific arguments and investigate real-world problems using chemical concepts, scientific literature, quantitative skills, and experimental data.
  6. Recognize the contributions, past and present, of researchers from diverse backgrounds and the ways in which diverse perspectives and experiences contribute to scientific discovery.
